Preoperative Appointments

Surgery is a big deal — even when the procedure is small. A pre-op appointment makes sure your child is healthy enough for anesthesia, that the surgical team has the information they need, and that you leave with a clear plan for the day of surgery and the recovery that follows.

What We Check

What we cover in the room

  • Recent illnesses, fevers, or symptoms that could affect anesthesia safety
  • Chronic conditions and how they’re currently controlled
  • Current medications, including over-the-counter and supplements — some need to be paused
  • Allergies, especially to medications, latex, or anesthetics
  • Family history of anesthesia complications
  • Heart, lung, and airway exam
  • Pre-op labs or testing if requested by the surgeon

Care We Provide

Your visit includes

Thorough pre-op exam

We do a focused exam looking at the things that matter most for anesthesia — heart, lungs, airway, and overall health.

Surgical clearance paperwork

We complete the pre-op forms the surgical team requires and send them ahead — no scrambling on the morning of surgery.

Coordination with the surgical team

If something needs to be communicated — chronic condition, recent illness, medication question — we reach out directly.

Plain-language prep instructions

What to eat (or not), what medications to take, when to arrive, and what recovery typically looks like for your child’s procedure.

Recent illness assessment

If your child has been sick recently, we help you decide whether surgery should proceed or be rescheduled — talking with the surgeon when needed.

Recovery planning

What to expect at home — pain, eating, school, follow-up. We anchor the recovery plan you got from the surgeon.
